Knowledge is of no use if not put to practice. A person who has good education, and does not use it, does not gain by the work he spent to gain it. Every grain helps to make us a bushel, so does every improved moment help to make an education for the person who improves his moments. Once you get an education, nothing can take it from you.

The great men of today gained their knowledge and greatness from study. The businessmen of today who have been successful have had the men for employees who have learned to save their money and time, for if they save their own money and time, it is certain they will save their employer’s as well. This kind of people also have respect for the property of other people, and will save it. The business man also selects for his junior partner, the highly educated man, as well as the employee. The partner shows in many ways whether he is a thrifty, thoughtful, respectful, and clever man that he little thinks of. But the Senior partner watches closely, watches and sees if he has money and time, and if he does, he is the man that is going to rise in life.

To do this and gain wealth, one must have an education. Without it one could not gain wealth or anything. Education cannot be gained at a wish, it takes pain, labor, and trouble. There are many obstacles to meet, but if you think hard, work hard, and use willpower, you can gain the desired knowledge.

How encouraging is the old adage: “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” We sometimes think it is discouraging instead of encouraging, but if we do as it tells us we cannot fail. We must succeed sometime. If we fail once, let us try again. And now, my classmates, let us not give up. Let us strive for the best, strive for what we know is right, till we reach the height of our class motto:
“Excelsior”
